Mommy Knows Best

Yesterday the children woke up at the usual 7:00am. This might be usual for them, but it's too early for me. I let them play in the bedroom while I roll out of bed, take a shower, or do Bible study. When it's almost 8:00am I let them out of their cell. I know that sounds rough, I learned the hard way that if I let them out of the bedroom when they wake up the wake up morning call just happens earlier and earlier. Keeping them caged at least doesn't encourage early risers. I've explained before that my two darling children need the sleep. Without they just aren't that darling and neither am I.
Kaeley told me several times yesterday that she was tired and couldn't wait for nap time. I couldn't wait for nap time! Not because the children were acting up or anything, but I did laundry and somehow laundry tires me out tremendously. I don't know... maybe the three flights of stairs has something to do with it.
However, when nap time finally rolled around I fell asleep on the couch for almost an hour, so that's good, but Kaeley never did fall asleep. It wasn't long into the evening when she was began to unravel. She ended up having to go to bed before Nathan, because she was so tired and showed it.
I'm not sure who woke the other up first, but this morning it was 6:15am when I heard the usual talking and kicking of head boards coming out of their bedroom. Argh. I walked in to find the curtains half way open, light pouring through the windows, and toys scattered all over the floor. What an annoyance. I told them in no uncertain terms that they were both to stay in bed, no talking to one another, and it was not time to get up. I fell back in bed, but since I didn't know what to expect from the children I never did fall asleep again. I decided to take my shower early. I never heard another noise from Kaeley, but after I had made my tea and sat down to read my Bible and other books I started hearing Nathan knocking on the door.
It was one of those mornings I wanted to beg Brad, "Don't leave us!" or, "Take me with you!" Unfortunately my knight in shining armor gave me a kind look that said, "Better you than me." He left me alone with two little creatures that were out to get me! I'm just sure he's out to get my insurance money! I've read about this kind of slow torture in Sue Grafton novels, you know.
I held my ground with Nathan though. I let him knock on the door all he wanted. I finished my tea, my reading, and before I went in to get him close to that 8:00am mark I got down on my knees to pray to the Lord Almighty for patience, grace, inspiration, and some Holy Spirit caffeine! After the "amen" I quietly walked into their room to find Nathan sleeping on the floor. Yep, Mommy knows best.
After breakfast we drove out to Target in Seal Beach to pick up our new pictures of the children and do some hefty shopping. Then we drove to the local library to turn in Kaeley's picture report of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. She's now officially done with the summer reading program. Hurray! Good job, Kaeley! The three of us had lunch, I put them to bed (who knows if they're actually sleeping), and I'm actually okay without a nap right now. I'm enjoying myself as I piddle around the house listening to talk radio.
Yes, people, prayer works!
