This morning went very well. Kaeley was in good spirits and was a good listener for most of it, so I overlooked the little annoyances. We played with a friend of hers for a couple of hours today. Now, yesterday she hadn't taken a nap, went to bed late, and woke up early. Finally, on our way home from our play date, she couldn't quite hold it all together. I gave her a couple of warnings about the whining, playing dumb, and scowls that she began to display. She, however, chose to continue with the ugly attitude.
To God be the glory! I was able to calmly give her the choices, deliver the consequence, which was to go immediately to nap time, and I did it all with a calm attitude and took nothing personally. That little girl pulled out all the secret weapons. I'm telling you these kids are given a handbook about manipulating adults! I heard things like, "Mommy, I don't think you love me." "I just need some love right now." "I can't open the door!" "Oh, I'm so hungry!" It was really quite pathetic. But I knew she was tired. My answer to all of her problems? "Good night, Sweetheart."
