A Day of Firsts

Yesterday I gave Kaeley the option of taking a shower by herself or a taking quick bath. I don't think she's taken a shower since she was a baby, but that's what she decided to do. Once I turned on the water for her she became quite timid of the water falling from above. I closed the door and left her alone with her own fears. Twenty to thirty minutes later she came out of the shower quite clean and happy. It turns out she loved the shower! Small pleasures as a mom... my baby's first shower by herself. :)
Another first that happened yesterday... her first skinned knee. She was skipping along in her flip flops outside in our carport area, which is all gravel. She stumbled, fell on her knees, and her gift was a nicely skinned knee. It wasn't bleeding yet, but it was a pretty good size and I remember from my own days of skinned knees that they burn like the dickens! She was crying, but not as loudly as I was accustomed to her doing with bumps and bruises. When we got upstairs she took another peek under her skirt to check the status of her war wound. The blood had arrived! Note to Jenna: I thought of you, because at least she didn't faint. :) However, at the sight of blood I think her life flashed before her eyes and she began to get a bit panicky. We cleaned it all up. It took two big flashy Barbie Band-Aids to cover the thing. Of course, Nathan watched the whole thing and I had to get him his own boy Band-Aids for his knee, so he could be just like sister.
When Brad came home she told him her harrowing story. "I was dancing along... fell on a rock... a hole in my knee... all the blood poured out to one side of my body... I thought it was going to drip, but it didn't... and, Daddy, do you like my Barbie Band-Aids?
This morning I served her breakfast at the table and she brainstormed for a few seconds on how best to sit down. She ended up sitting one side of her body on the chair and then swinging her new peg leg so she didn't have to bend it.
She's a joy. Silly girl.
