Yesterday the whole family, including my mom and dad, went on a trip to Disneyland. My dad loves Disneyland, especially now that there are grandkids, so he now has a pass. They took the kids last week, we went yesterday, and he took Kaeley today as well!
Yesterday was fabulous! It was hot, but not too hot, and it wasn't crowded. The only thing that bummed me out was that while I brought my beloved camera and an extra battery pack I had brought no flash card, so I wasn't able to take any pictures.
This was Alynna's first visit. I don't think she was that impressed.
Brad and I were able to ride Toy Story for the first time. That was a great ride. My dad had a little contest going on with Brad to see who would have the most points. Kaeley got 1,100. I got 34,000. Dad got 54,000. Brad got well over 100,000. He blew us all out of the water!
After Toy Story Dad said he wanted to ride Tower of Terror. Kaeley piped up that she wanted to go too! Brad and I were shocked! For those of you who haven't gone on this ride let me explain the basics. It's a ghostly hotel where you get in an elevator that bounces you up to the top of the building, a door opens up to show you how high you are, and then you're plummeted back down and up and so on.
Kaeley didn't know what to expect. She was sitting in between Brad and myself. She was getting awfully nervous before the ride started, but still went on. She sat there holding my hand, and suddenly we dropped. Kaeley squeezed my hand hard when that happened! She was a little pillar of stone. That girl had her whole face squeezed shut tight. When the door opened to show us a sight of the city way down below us I yelled, "Kaeley, look! We're outside! We're outside! Can you see?" Her eyes, which were screwed shut peeked out the tiniest bit and clammed shut again. It was the funniest and most pathetic thing I'd seen! Brad and I fell over her in a fit of laughter and guilt and held her until the end of the ride.
At the end she slowly got out of her chair. She hadn't cried, screamed, laughed. A pillar of stone, I tell you. I asked her what she thought and her answer was, "It was a little scary." She told us later that she would maybe try it again when she was five or six.
My dad and I have tried to get Kaeley to ride Splash Mountain, but she did not want to ride this, because it was too wet. We decided to start calling it the "log ride". Suddenly Kaeley wanted to ride the "log ride". While we were in line people were screaming as they fell towards the water, but Kaeley was still chattering away about the "log ride". As we progressed and passed the big sign she stopped chattering and squeaked, "Hey! I didn't want to ride this ride!" My dad nicely said she was riding with him anyway. Brad hates getting wet, but because of the hot weather he decided to join us. Everything would have been fine, but when it was almost our turn the worker yelled out for a party of two. I screamed out, "Party of two!" We ended up sitting right in the front of the log. Not the best place to be. At the end of the ride Brad was just sure our electronic key pad for the car had been broken and we would be stuck at the park forever. One of his shoes was soaked. He had been on the verge of getting a cold, he felt, and now he was sure that he felt awful! Thankfully I'm not a widow yet and our car key worked just fine. Both of my shoes were so soaked I bought a pair of flip flops later in the evening.
Now Kaeley was in the very back of a log with my dad, who did a great job of protecting her. She didn't get more than a mist on her face, so she loved the ride and wanted to ride again.
Not only did she go on those two rides for the first time ever, but it turned out she also wanted to ride Space Mountain! Our picture in the ride showed all the adults screaming with joy, hands in the air (waving them like we just don't care), and then there's a little pink princess in the front row with a poker face who's hanging on to my dad's arm for the sake of her life. She loved that ride too though.
It was a fun evening, especially because of Kaeley going on all these rides for the first time. She certainly has grown into quite the dare devil in her old age. Brad and I were very proud.
