My Nightmare

Last night I had a dream that had an overall feeling of a nightmare and when I finally woke up I just had to chuckle at the humor.
For the past year we've owned a pet that Kaeley had been wanting. It's a little dwarf hamster. He could easily fit in a quarter measuring cup. He's so small that he's impossible to hold. He's just too quick. That day that Nathan pulled the whole shelf off the floor I told Brad that if Simon, our hamster, had gotten out of the cage and run all over the house I would have let the thing run all over the house as long as it wanted and would have posted Nathan on craigslist. That little boy. I have to laugh at the things he gets into... sometimes. I love that little boy up one side and down the other, dirty diaper included, but, boy, he keeps me on my toes! This morning he picked up our wooden bathroom stool, carried it into the kitchen, and got into the drawers. I turned around from where I was in the kitchen to see him holding a bread knife.
Anyway. I digress...
Since Simon is so small and can't be held the family doesn't associate much with him. Nathan is quite intrigued by him, but that's the most attention the animal gets on most days. I, however, am, of course, the one who has to change the stinky cage every other day.
Last night I dreamt that Kaeley and I lived with my parents in their small California house. It was a very small space now that so many people were living there. In my dream we thought that Simon had died. We went to Petco to buy another hamster. Somehow I came home confused and in ownership of seven little tiny dwarf hamsters. Not only that, but Simon was alive and well. As soon as you walked in the door there were cages and boxes lined up of little tiny, stinky hamsters.
Then I walk in the back of the house to apologize to my parents for bringing home so many animals. I was going to try returning all but one of them, and I was already feeling relieved about the prospect. I walk into their room to find that they had bought Kaeley three chinchillas and three baboons for her birthday!
That's when I woke up. I wasn't in a cold sweat over the dream of animals coming out of my ears, but it was close!
