Women Retreats or Mens Retreats are usually weekends away organized by churches. It's an opportunity for us to get away from the usual rat race, be with the Lord, focus on the Lord, and fellowship with other believers. Alynna and I attended a women's retreat just last weekend. It was a wonderful time away. I didn't really need to get away from my home, but having time with a bunch of girls and not having to cook for anyone was very nice. My best friend, Christy, joined us and it was such a blessing to have her with us. Well, that is until I realized she can make Alynna laugh more than I can at any particular moment. That's okay. I'm dealing with it.
It was a very pleasant time away with God. I felt as though He just reaffirmed what He'd been telling me all along, which was to stop trying and stop doing. "Just be and enjoy it!"
What's funny about the whole experience is when you go to a retreat the leaders usually warn you about the "mountain top feeling". It means that when you're at a retreat you feel like you're on a mountain and you feel a "bring it on" type of attitude towards your life. You feel like you can do anything! They warn you about this, because usually you do go back to normal life and you have to be aware that life isn't usually going to change over night. It ruins your "mountain top buzz".
I left on Sunday and felt as though I was walking through life at a nice and leisurely pace. Suddenly I get home and the marathon, which is my family, trampled on me! I felt as though I had been on the mountain and looking down on the peaceful valley before and suddenly someone just pushed me! It was quite a shocker to get back into real life. On Sunday night I went to bed wondering how it the world I was going to get back in time for Monday.
However all is well at the Saavedra house. The kids are happy, getting up early in the morning. Daddy is finishing up the much hated reviews. Mommy is tired, always tired, satisfied with a not perfectly cleaned home and children that feel that arguing is just another form of acceptable communication. Mommy is content and enjoying the walk.
