Well, not only do we have a hamster, five caterpillars, three children, and two adults living in the two bedroom apartment, but now we have …. A spider. During yesterday’s nap I saw it scurry across the floor. I fought through the heebee jeebbees just to get this spider in a cage for my nature lover. Kaeley has named him Tom. I think his full name is Tom Adam. Now here’s the thing. I let her take Tom to Grandma’s house, and when we went to pick her and Nathan up from their house I told her we were going to let the spider go before getting in the apartment, because we didn’t want the spider to starve to death. Well, what should happen but while in the car on the way home a tiny moth lands on Kaeley’s hand. We were able to put the moth in the spider’s cage and it was eaten within the hour. So then I tell her that we can bring the spider to botanical gardens today to see if the docent had any information on what kind of arachnid we had caught. I did, however, make a deal with Kaeley that if the docent said the spider was happier outside the garden we were going to leave him in the garden. No such luck. The docents said we should feed him pesky bugs, like flies. Well, sure enough, while the docent was explaining why flies were good to be rid of what should Kaeley see mating on the bush below her, but two mating flies. I think Tom is here for good.
This morning, by the way, she tells me that the spider had to stretch its legs, because otherwise their legs can fall asleep and make it hard to work. I did think that was a good point. You try walking in a straight line with six legs that are all asleep.
PS. Happy birthday, Grandma Wilson! We love you! We wish we were in the same area so we could share a delicious meal of Olive Garden!
