Vacation Bible School

I survived! This was Kaeley third year of Vacation Bible School at Kings Harbor Church, and my first volunteering! I remember years ago when I attended my own VBS. In years past I loved dropping Kaeley off, having alone time with Nathan, and then picking up a happy girl with arms full of crafts, mouth full of song, and head full of knowledge. Now that Nathan is bigger and there are two little ones, I found it a lot easier to volunteer, because it feels as though I drop her off, get home for half an hour, and then am back to church to pick her up in time.

Well, I'm totally a fan of our children's ministry! I was really nervous, because not only was this my first year working, but I had to get there by 8:35am every morning! We don't usually finish breakfast until that time, so I was quite nervous. Some mornings went better than others, but overall I thought it went pretty well. Some mornings all were dressed, but none were fed, and I had oatmeal in thermoses. Some mornings hardly any were dressed, but all were fed. I got very good at throwing things in a bag for later. Only this morning did I forget an outfit, and thankfully it was Alynna's, so she hung out in pajamas with no socks or shoes all day long.

I was in the nursery. It was me and one other women and five babies. I thought I would be bored out of my mind hanging out with babies for four straight hours. However, thanks to all my friends from church I felt as though I were at a four hour a day play date. It was fun. I'm tired and the kids are ready to go back to their usual morning routine, but we all had fun.

This year's focus was Rome. Yesterday Kaeley kept telling me about the people that dressed up as people from Bethlehem. I asked if she meant Israelites. She said no, they were from Bethlehem. Only this afternoon did I realize she was talking about Rome. Duh, Janna!

As I've never worked a VBS I don't have much to compare it to, but I personally thought the theme was great. Kaeley loves learning about the underground church, and Rome was a bit about the Christians that had to hide their faith and trust in God's love. The Bible points included: God's love is always with us. God's love saves us. God's love is a free gift. God's love is something to share. Remember... I was in the nursery, so I'm a little behind the teachings. Everyday there was great worship songs, skits, crafts for all ages, teachings from Apostle Paul himself, games, etc. Kaeley and Nathan both came home with bags full of paper and goodies they had made at class.

The pictures, by the way, are of Kaeley during worship. The picture of the two little girls are of Kaeley, of course, and her little friend... Kaylee. I think there are three Kaylee/Kaileigh/Kaeley,etc in her class. Sorry, Honey. It was original before we decided that was your name. The picture of Alynna was taken this morning. That was the best I could get, because she kept looking or crawling away. See? She's in pajamas? Little ragamuffin! Don't worry. She's now dressed and presentable.

There's a picture Nathan's teachers took of him with his little preschool class. He didn't get to travel around Rome like Kaeley did, but he had fun watching a movie, eating snack, playing with his friends. Whenever I asked Kaeley if she had a good time in class Nathan would pipe out, "Me, Mommy! Me! Fun class!"
The picture of Kaeley with the adults is just about the cutest thing I've ever seen. She's there with people from our church who acted in the skits. The soldier played Triple G. No, those are not his real teeth. :) I'm not sure what his stage name was. I think it was Maximus. He's there with Susiemus and Lauralia. I was so touched when I found it in her bag, because it looks like everyone was having so much fun!

We had fun this week. I'm already looking forward to next year's commitment, but I'm very excited about tomorrow's quiet morning and sleeping in. Well, there I go again, having expectations. Big mistake! I guess I could always get lucky.
