Yesterday I took the kids on a walk around the block to fill my quota of getting the kids into nature every day. Well, as you can see from the pictures, they, uh, got into nature. We went on our walk and came back to the mud ponds in the front playground. They began to slosh through the puddles in their rain boots. That progressed into jumping. From there they began playing in the mud. They had a great time making irrigation canals and trying to connect all their rivers to the larger sea.
The entire time they were playing I stood back with a grimace on my face. Is it okay to let your children play in the cold rain water? Especially when two are recovering from a cold and one is dealing with one? The phrase "hot or not" came to my mind. I tried coming up with a "crazy or... lazy"? But I couldn't come up with one. I just could not make up my mind if I was being negligent or allowing them to enjoy the messy part of life.
However, now that they're all three alive and not in bed with pneumonia I can say I'm leaning towards this was being a good idea.
