Today we met our friends at Wilderness Park. It was a lovely day. I enjoyed the fellowship with my friend and the kids had a great time running around the woodsy area and climbing trees. Thankfully for me my friend is not lugging around an extra forty pounds of fluid, baby, and who knows what else, because she was able to chase down two year olds getting too close to the water's edge, save four year olds from falling out of a tree perched on top of a cliff, and other exciting activities that I was just a bit too slow for. However, one thing she wasn't able to save us from... another milestone first for me as a parent... Nathan fell into the duck pond. Sigh. Yes. The boy reached over too far in hopes of touching a black duck swimming near. He slipped in the mud and before I knew it I had Swamp Thing crawling out of the pond. He was crying. He was soaked from head to toe. I mean soaked! My friend stayed with the kids as I "ran" up the hill, down the hill, to the parking lot, got the extra clothes from the car, back up the hill, and down the hill again. The entire jaunt maybe was a quarter of a mile. My hips won't be the same for a while. Ugh. Poor Nathan though. He was not happy. Once he was dry he didn't find life so miserable, but he was almost convinced that this was a terribly day because of the "incident".
If I go into labor tonight I'm blaming that black duck!
