My time has finally arrived in parenting! Kaeley is now old enough to sit through the "classics". I've tried at various times in her life, and while she can easily sit through an hour of reading picture books, she couldn't sit through chapter books until recently. I've tried Stuart Little and Charolette's Web. Half way through Charolette's Web I asked her what the pig's name was. "Charolette." Oh forget it!
But, two or three weeks ago I checked out Wizard of Oz and she loved it! Now we're in the beginning of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Yesterday, while they ate their afternoon snack and Kaeley colored I read at least three chapters.
I have been waiting for us to share these special books for a long time and it excites me to no end that she's now old enough to follow the concepts.
She understood Wizard of Oz with no problem. This new book is a bit of a different kind of challenge, because the story line is more sophisticated and the vocabulary is different than ours. I have to fill her in on the fact that when they say that Lucy must be "batty" or "mad" it means they think she's crazy. For a while she thought the queen must be nice, because she was beautiful on the outside. But she followed the overall plot and we even backed it up with the beginning of the movie last night.
I attached a picture of Kaeley and her doll in matching outfits. I found the dress pair on a tip from a friend. They were at TJ Maxx for ten dollars! Then, without my asking, Kaeley invited Nathan over to join her. So, there they are. My two cute kids who are growing up so quickly it's driving me into a hormonal craze!

That's awesome she can sit through those, my kids cannot and they 5 and almost 8. But I guess that's normal for boys.
