Yesterday, after swimming class, we drove to the beach. This is a pretty big thing for us, because, while Kaeley loves the beach, I am really just not into it. I just prefer warmed pools rather than sandy beaches and sticky, salty ocean water. However, we went had a good time. Nathan seemed to enjoy it a lot. It was the biggest sand box he'd ever seen! Kaeley liked pretty much everything about the trip. She even started collecting some type of sea grass. She "sold" them to us for bracelets, so I came home with seaweed tied around my wrists and ankles, and Nathan had one tied around his neck and one around his hat.
We tried a craft that I read about in a magazine. It sounded really neat, but didn't quite work. You take plaster with you, make a hand print mold in the sand, decorate it with shells, and then pour in the plaster. Kaeley's fingers broke off her mold and Nathan's foot broke in half and then he started picking off all the shells. Oh well, it was a fun experience. I didn't want to waste the plaster, so the pieces are now in a glass bowl acting as a center piece for our table.
Another thing I learned about visiting the beach: you don't sit down near the piles of seaweed. They are infested with flies. Oh, it was gross. Whenever they swarmed I thought of the locust swarms in Egypt. Okay, it wasn't that bad, but it reminded me of the story anyway.
I spent two dollars on metered parking so I wouldn't have to walk too far down to the beach. My back just can't take the walking anymore. Well, I just lived my life yesterday without much thought to what I was doing and am still "suffering" from the awful back pain I gave myself yesterday. I had to hold all the towels, food, and sand toys yesterday and held Nathan while we walked up and down the stairs to the beach. I also utilized my three flights of stairs quite often yesterday, which just made it worse. Oh, my back! Today Nathan's been doing a lot more walking. My car is also loaded up with things that should be back up in the apartment, but I just can't bring myself to go down and get them again.
However, the beach trip was a lovely experience.

lol we get the same magazine. I ripped out that page about the plaster craft at the beach. I hadn't tried it yet...bummer it didn't work very well.
It sure does look like they had fun! Love the picture of Nathan grinning like that. :) I'm with you on the stickiness of the beach. I used to love it...not so much anymore. lol
