Alynna's free ride here at home is over! She still wakes up for a midnight feeding and just decides to stay awake at least three times a week. We've been trying to keep her awake as much as possible during the day. This is actually like trying to nail jello to the wall. She can sleep through our errands, getting hit by Nathan (he's burping her), and so on. I think I'm fighting a losing battle.
Then I realize there's quite a benefit to being the non-sleeping beauty, because I've been trying everything to set up a night time routine that encourages sleeping. How many of us would love to have a warm bubble bath every night and a massage? Someone gave us a massage gel for babies that releases the body's natural calming enzymes, or something. After I get Alynna out of her beloved warm baths she screams all the way through the calming massage. Then Brad swaddles her, I nurse her, and I put her in her bed, which has been warming up with a heating pad. I guess she's got us right where she wants us. Sigh. I've been trying everything, but I think it's mostly her sleeping through out the day that's killing my system.
But, in the words of Scarlett O'Hara, "I'll think about that later, because tonight is another night!"
