Side Note: Alynna is doing much better! Praise God! We all actually slept well last night, and it felt great!
I was reading a book about Martin Luther King Jr. to Kaeley yesterday. The book said that two of Martin's boyhood friends stopped playing with him because he was black and they were white. This seemed to roll off Kaeley without an impact. Now, while Los Angeles is just crawling with all types of nationalities, we don't have all that many African American friends. She does, however, know two little black boys in her Sunday School class who Kaeley talks about often. One of the boys, Isaac, she was just sure she was going to marry at one time.
I asked her what color her skin was. Well, she was "kind of pink". I told her that they call us "white". Then I said that Isaac and Romeo were what we call "black". She answered with a "hmm". She looked at Alynna and pointed to a mole on her head. She said that Alynna was "black", too. I just didn't get through. I couldn't tell if she didn't get it because she's young or if because it was never been made an issue. You knows, maybe it's both.
It was amusing to me.
There was enough time that I was reading a book on slavery. It said that the families were often split apart and sold. She did ask what happened to the children. She said, "What did they do with the children? Put them in stew or something?"
