Sometime before Christmas my mom-in-law bough a Wii. Our family had a blast playing it. Now I have never had a computer console when I was growing up. I had a GameBoy. That's a big part of my childhood, because the emphasis in our house was using your imagination, reading (which I hated until recently), finding something to do that didn't plug into a wall. While Brad and I had fun with the Wii I couldn't get it out of my mind that I never intended my kids to grow up with a console.
Well, we bought one over the weekend. Brad and I have had a great time playing tennis and golf. The kids like it, but they have a hard time working the little buttons of the remotes when they're needed. Kaeley ends up getting quite frustrated a lot of the time. While I have fun with it I'm still in shock and somewhat ashamed that we bought it. Don't worry. I'm sure I'll live. We now have electronics filling our little tiny apartment. Everywhere I look there are wires, screens, buttons, and things to entertain me. It's a little overwhelming to me. I think I'm having a tough time separating from my upbringing in this particular matter.
Oh well, Brad and I have fun when the kids go to bed. He beats me in just about every single sport, except bowling, which is funny, because I'm terrible at bowling in real life. The other funny thing about it is we took our Wii Age last night. I eat better, exercise more, and am guessing that in real life I'm in much better health than he is, but he's the computer guy, so he got an age of 39 and I got 80!
I'm going out today to buy Brad a golf game and one for the whole family and then we're calling it quits on the spending. Whew. I can feel my heart beat a skip. Whatever happened to my idea of living the simple life and enjoying it? I think I kissed that idea good-bye once I married a computer genius who works for a gaming company, moved into an apartment near one of the largest cities in America, and began living like I was actually in the 21st century. Hey, give me time! My parents didn't even own an answering machine until the late 90's.
