Working the Nine to Five

Okay, it wasn't the 9am-5pm that most people work, but I actually went to work today! I haven't interpreted in over a year and yet I was able to pick up a Saturday class! The class is a Cabinet and Furniture Making lab that is held at the college I'm employed by and is from 8:00am-12:20pm. I'm not sure how this might work out for poor Brad who has a nursing baby, who isn't a fan of the bottle, and two older children, but we'll see. I've already told him that I'll quit if it adds too much stress to the family.
I was nervous about finding the obscure little building in time, identifying the deaf student, and doing a good service for those who hired me. Well, everything went very smoothly. The student actually found me, and he's very clear and patient with me. My ability to read signs is obviously a little slow... to say the least. I was able to read most of what he said, but there was one time where he asked me something about hearing, at least I thought. I didn't know what he meant, so instead of feeling stupid and telling him so I tried to bluff my way out of it. Looking back I think he asked me if my receptive skills were any good. I guess my reaction answered his question.
It felt nice to sign again and be in the class room. I enjoyed my job a lot when I was out on the field, so I think I'll enjoy this little venture of mine if Brad doesn't end up going crazy at home.
