Yesterday Kaeley attended a class about turtles at our local aquarium. This was the second time we've used their classes. She came home with a craft and tons of information about turtles: what they eat, how they eat it, how they lay eggs, and so on. She had a good time.
That morning we had attended Bible study at church and then met our friends at the park for lunch before heading off to the aquarium. It had been a busy day, so I thought for sure Nathan would take a nap in the stroller. I had brought my iPod full of podcasts and even a book! I know, all the moms of young kids are laughing at me right now. Of course, no such luck. As soon as Nathan recognized where we were he was on fire to get up and go!
The three of us went to the Lorikeet Forest for the first time in several months. The last time we went Nathan had been allowed to invite the birds to climbs onto his hand. This time, however, the birds were cranky and tired of all the visiting crowds. Nathan, of course, didn't take that as their final answer. He would observe the bird for a few minutes. The bird, in turn, would watch him suspiciously. The bird would squawk so loudly I was just sure he was verbally attacking my boy! However, Nathan doesn't usually back down after a challenge. He'd put up his hand towards the bird and get bit about three times before he'd laugh and walk away to terrorize the next bird. One bird bit him twice before looking straight at him and squawking loudly. Nathan never lost eye contact or his little mischievous grin. Then he looked at the bird, puffed out his chest, and yelled back. With that he turned around and left.
