Swedish Day

Last month Kaeley wanted to learn about World War II. We read "Number the Stars" in which the heroin and her family help Jews escape to the neutral country Sweden. The month of October started a new subject of history for us and Kaeley decided she wanted to learn about a country. She said she wanted to learn about Africa, but when we were trying to find Africa books I read out loud the list of books that were in the area. At one point Kaeley quickly piped out, "Sweden? Did you say Sweden?" And that was that.
So, I now know more about Sweden (basic information) than I ever have in my life. Saturday was our "Sweden Day". My parents came over for dinner and everything was Swedish... or as close as I could get. The guests were required to wear the colors of the Swedish flag. I fed my mom even though she wore a red and black work-out outfit. I owed her a few meals from my childhood, so I let it slide. Now, I'm sorry to say I accidentally deleted a beautiful picture of the family at the dinner table.
So, we had Swedish Turkey Meatballs, egg noodles, a Swedish cucumber salad, Limpa bread, which was inedible, and for dessert we had Oat Cookies with Walnuts (supposedly Swedish) and... Swedish Fish.
On the table I also had a flag Kaeley had made, a toy reindeer, a modge podged Dala Horse vase, and an Ikea catalog. Kaeley is dressed as a very unconventional and very brown-headed St. Lucia.
I love themes.
