Ice Cream for Dinner

My Tuesday was terrible. The night before Brad and I both had slept miserably. We were probably awake more time than we were asleep. I think the earthquake possibly woke up Alynna, so I walked into her room to put her back to bed. That was around 4:30am. I was awake from the time I put her back into bed until 6:15am when my alarm clock finally went off.
I was so very tired even before we ate breakfast.
The rest of the morning went pretty smoothly. I let the kids watch about an hour of a movie so I could lie down to sleep. I never did fall asleep like I was hoping, but I at least got to rest.
It was at nap time when things began going haywire. Nathan never did take a nap. I put him in his bed about three times, once with a swat to the bottom, but he was not having it. In the living room I had Kaeley starting school work. It took her a good two hours just to finish her one sentence answer to her devotional and one math lesson, front and back. It was one of those days where her brain just wasn't working. I was getting so angry with her and then hearing Nathan crashing around in his toys again. Ugh. It was not a good day.
Tuesday night is Brad's game night at work, so he wouldn't be home until closer to bedtime. The weather here in our area has quickly changed from cool to quite warm, if not right out hot, so after Alynna, my only child on the good list that day, woke up I put them in the stroller and took a little walk to our local playground.
We don't usually stay more than an hour at Torrance Park unless we have friends there with us. However, Tuesday was an odd day all around, and so the children ended up playing happily in the playground for a little over two hours! The ice cream truck went by and I happened to have seven dollars in my wallet. That never happens. I never have cash. So, anyway, the truck stopped and I decided to a have a make-a-memory moment. We all ran to catch the truck and the children ordered ice cream from a truck for the first time in their lives.
I'm sorry to say that I didn't bring my camera. However, the Popsicles that Kaeley and Nathan picked out were quite large and bright red, white, and blue, so Nathan was stained red for that night and part of the next day.
Alynna and I shared quite a large root beer.
We walked home around seven. I served popcorn for dinner. I was so ready for bedtime that when it finally came around I walked around like a zombie. Having a child free zone in the living room again was heavenly.
No, Tuesday was not a fun day for me at all, but the ice cream and long playground visit redeemed the day. Thank You, God!
