Heritage Park

Our field trip this week was to the ever so beautiful Heritage Park in Cerritos, California. We hadn't been there in a couple of years. It was so refreshing to see the beautiful and quiet grounds again. The park is a real gem. Considering we have been reading about the Revolutionary War for months this park was now a treasure chest!
We met some friends as you can see. Simon was thrilled to see his good friend Frankie. Frankie was hugged often even when he didn't seem very excited about the demonstrative Simon. It was too cute! They would hug and Simon looked at him and signed "nurse". It was like they were having a conversation.

I have been amazed at the amount of nature us city folk get to see. I've already posted about some our science adventures. At this lovely park there were about a hundred turtles and dozens of ducks of various kinds and colors. In a covered bridge there was a visible pigeon nest and baby pigeons. Very refreshing from our nest experience. The boys watched a duck lay eggs! I was flabbergasted! The nest was full of a dozen eggs. Later Kaeley found another duck on a nest. Nathan later adopted a park worker to be his "best friend" and he watched the man fish out crawdads.
I lived out in the country and near farms when I was the kids' age. I have never seen a duck lay eggs! But I can now say that I have seen a butterfly hatch from a cocoon. I can now die a very happy woman.
