Carving Pumpkins at Grandma's

Last week Brad's mom invited us to her house to carve pumpkins. It was much easier than I thought, because Kaeley, surprisingly enough, is old enough to do almost all of it on her own. We got them all started, we helped the older ones clean out their pumpkins, and then Kaeley got to work.

Simon, of course, didn't care about the pumpkins in the slightest. He was more interested in what he couldn't get into, like the muddy garden, the dog's water bowl, and special trinkets. Alynna said for a while she didn't want to carve any pumpkin, and later changed her mind. I carved a small pumpkin for her and let her at it. She then decided she really wasn't interested. That was quickly remedied by Kaeley, who was excited to put a knife to another gourd.

Nathan did a great job cleaning out his pumpkin and designing the face, but in the end he was also interested in something else. Kaeley lucked out again.

This is Kaeley's cat.

Nathan had a lovely friendly faced pumpkin.

The boys are playing on the sidewalk, but I just loved Alynna's stance as she watched them play. So girly and yet so full of determination. So is Alynna.
Thank you, Mom, for providing the fun activity and even feeding us lunch. And we were right, the very fussy Simon fell asleep while driving home. Boy, was he unhappy.
