Swim Lessons

Now while I didn't sign the kids up for swim lessons last year, we have been doing lessons through the city of Torrance every year before that since Kaeley was Nathan's age. Kaeley was dreading going this year, because she hates being cold. You know those few minutes after you get out of the pool water and you are chilly until you wipe the water off? Yeah. Those few minutes of being uncomfortable caused Kaeley to dread the class for weeks! Oh, the drama! However, thank goodness, all she needed was one day to love swim class. She found another little girl she really enjoyed in her class and after that life was all good.
You can find the speck that is Kaeley in the picture above. Look for the small green dot. Those are Kaeley's googles. She's learning to swim on her back.
Most of my half hour during swim class was not devoted to watching my budding Olympic swimmers. I'm still in the life-stage where I follow the shortest family member around. There was very little "sit" time for us. But I was able to take peaks at the big kids as Simon and I made laps around benches, went up and down stairs, walked into the library, ran in the library, and finally made it back in time to pick the swimmers up after class.
Nathan is in the arms of his teacher there in the left of the picture. He is swimming towards his new best friend, Audrina. You see, Nathan meets friends everywhere he goes. Audrina was his friend from swim class. She's a little five year old girl who is super sweet. They figured since they both like shrimp and pickles it was a match made in heaven.
This day Simon got super lucky! Quack-tor!
I think Simon was ready to swim.
Alynna is the one leaning as far out of the water as humanly possible.

Kaeley can now swim free-style, more or less. Nathan is learning to swim longer than he doggie-paddles. Alynna still doesn't swim, but at least she isn't terrified of going into the water. Some days that's all we can ask for. So... well done!

I took last summer off too. We still have 2 weeks left. And I can also relate to not watching much of a 50 minute lesson. :)
