Kaeley and I decided to bless firemen this year. We've never had the personal need for firemen, thank God, but I'm thankful for their dedication and their presence. While I'm out it I want to give a shout out to my fireman uncle, "What's up, Uncle Billy! Thanks for all you do!"
So, Nathan and I made cookies and Kaeley made a beautiful "Thank You for Being Brave" sign, which I should have taken a picture. The fire station is only a mile and a half away, so I just figured out with a cool website, but I can't believe that was only a mile and a half. Geeze! I was okay walking there, but it took me twenty minutes. Can I say that it took me longer, because I was pushing eighty pounds of kids? Well, they were on wheels. I guess I'm out of shape.
The firemen were mostly out and about. Half the group was in a class upstairs and half the group was out on the field training. However, there were two firemen in the front office. Boy, did we ever get lucky! The man who took our cookies had two young kids of his own and he works for public education in schools and clubs teaching children about fire safety. He was great! He gave the kids sticker badges, plastic firemen hats, and gave us a little tour of the garage. The two olders got to sit in some pretty big trucks. It was such a neat thing.
When we finally had to let him get back to work I packed the kids back into the stroller I tried taking a picture of them in their hats. Sigh. Kaeley kept saying, "Firemen!" which does not produce a smile, and I couldn't get all three in the picture. Oh well, you get the idea.
I thought to myself, "Twenty minutes? I can do it in less than that!" But it took me twenty-four minutes to get back! I'm so ashamed.
