Yesterday was our Christmas party at the homeschooling co-op we attend. It was crazy trying to get everyone ready in the morning and get there on time with a hot potluck dish and winter coats for all of us, but we made it and it only took me half an hour to calm down from the beginning frenzy. :)
All three children went into their own classes... eventually. Nathan usually cries when I drop him off, so I let him stay with me for a little while. My job was to help the Story Teller keep the kids quiet. He stayed cuddled with me and when it was time for the little 2-4 year olds to leave I asked him if he wanted to go. He didn't want to leave until I said the class was decorating cookies. Then he asked me once if I could come, and when I said no, he ran to his class. Thank goodness for sugar cookies.
I worked my short hour. The lounge, where the moms usually take their free hour, was jammed packed with children going through their stations. It was pretty loud and I hadn't slept very well the night before, so I snuck out to my car and cuddled in the backseat for a while. I think I actually snoozed for only ten minutes or less, but it was nice to take a quiet break.
The kids had a good time. The two olders got to hear a Christmas story, sing carols, decorate sugar cookies, play games, and do a craft. The picture of just Nathan is how he looked when he was brought back to me straight from class. I think he might have nibbled on some of that icing. :)
Then it was potluck time. That was a lot of work, but I had a friend with young children and we tried to help each other as much as possible while waiting in line for the food and eating. There was some mighty good food!
When we came home I sent everyone off to bed immediately. I could hear Alynna and Kaeley playing in their bedroom, but I just hoped for the best. I think I fell asleep on the couch for at least an hour! When the kids woke up I turned on Harry Potter and called it a day. :)
